A Message from Jeffrey Edell, President & CEO, MeWe
To the MeWe Community,
I hope that everyone is keeping well.
As the Meta vs. FTC trial captures headlines and MeWe is getting some stage time too, I’ve been reflecting on our journey. What it has taken to build MeWe and more importantly why we are all still here. Watching this trial unfold, I’m hopeful. Not just for legal accountability, but for the possibility that it sparks a broader shift in how people start to imagine the future of their digital lives.
At the same time this trial is taking place, a new Utah data sharing law is creating more clarity around the importance of interoperability between social media companies and ensuring the protection of users overall. This is a paradigm shift for many major social networks that have taken control of our data, our family and friend graphs and our digital footprint that we have provided to them over many years.
Thankfully, here at MeWe we have held tight to our values with regards to the user owning their own data from day one. Hopefully, this law will encourage these tech giants to treat users with more respect and provide room for innovation.
It’s time to consider the control Big Tech has over us. It is your connections, your content and your communities that provide the fuel for these engines.
Many of you already know the challenges we’ve faced along the way. Competing with a giant like Facebook isn’t just difficult, it can feel like standing against a tidal wave. They’ve acquired competitors, walled off ecosystems, and used their immense reach to silence or suppress alternatives. I’ve seen it happen up close, and I can tell you it’s not pretty.
But from day one, the team at MeWe has chosen a different path.
Being the CEO of a platform like MeWe, one that refuses to exploit your data, one that puts the user first, means constantly resisting shortcuts that may bring faster growth but compromise our values, and it means building trust the old-fashioned way, by earning it.
Every line of code, every partnership, every product decision we make starts with one question: What is best for our users? We don’t sell your data. We don’t manipulate your feed. We don’t lock you in. Instead, we work tirelessly to give you ownership of your identity, your content, and your connections. That’s why we’re decentralising MeWe and building with leaders like Frequency and Avalanche. They are helping us to create systems where your data belongs to you, not us.
And while the tech industry still rewards control and dominance, we believe in a future shaped by openness, diversity, and mutual respect. A future where social media is a tool for empowerment, not surveillance.
This journey is far from over. But with every obstacle we face, your support reminds us why it matters so deeply. You are not just users, you are part of a movement and the co-creators of this vision. You are the reason we keep pushing forward.
So as this trial plays out, let’s stay hopeful and committed to building better social choices for the world, together.
With gratitude,
Jeffrey Edell, President & CEO, MeWe
